Year after year we receive enquires about how to use legally the PADI Logo as Individual PADI Instructors. How can the Individual Instructors use the PADI Logo legally on websites or as a Dive Centres when they are not an official registered PADI Dive Centre?

There are a few general considerations when you set up your business or update your website.

During this article I hope to shed some light onto this matter.

As a renewed PADI Retail & Resort Association Member – you are allowed to use any PADI Logos which you download from your PADI Prosite or your Regional Manager provided them to you. There are some rules, but these are mostly to make sure the logos are not changed and are used to maximum effect.

If you decide not to renew your PADI Retail & Resort Association Membership for the following year – PADI will kindly ask you to remove all PADI branding from the website, shop signage, letterheads, business cards, flyers and all other advertising and promotional avenues.

Being able to use the PADI logos and other marks is obviously one of many great benefits for renew your annual PADI membership.

But what can you now do when you aren’t a PADI Dive Centre or when you want to advertise your business as a PADI Individual Member?

Below you will find five General Usage Guidelines

1. A PADI Instructor working or contracting for a dive center/resort or other business that is not a PADI dive center/resort association member:

• The Instructor is not authorized to use the PADI trademarks in promoting the business, but is authorized to use the “PADI Instructor Available” Artwork from PADI. The Artwork is authorized to be displayed on the business website and in advertising materials (flyers, etc.), but is not authorized for use on any external signage. The business must remove the Artwork from all advertising media if a PADI Instructor is no longer working for or contracting with the business.

1. A PADI Instructor who owns a dive center/resort or other business that would qualify as a PADI dive center/resort association member but chooses for the business to not become a member:

• The Instructor is not authorized to use the PADI trademarks in promoting the business, but is authorized to use the “PADI Instructor Available” Artwork from PADI. The Artwork is authorized to be displayed on the business website and in advertising materials (flyers, etc.), but is not authorized for use on any external signage.

1. A dive business that is a PADI dive center/resort association member:

• The business is authorized to use all PADI trademarks in promoting the business’ activities, to the full extent allowed by the Member License Agreement and to the level the business’ membership is qualified.

1. A dive business that has been expelled or terminated from PADI retail/resort association membership:

• The business has no rights to use any PADI trademarks, business names, signage, etc., even if a PADI Instructor is associated with the business. PADI Instructors are also not authorized to use any PADI trademarks, business names, signage, etc if such use is associated with such an expelled or terminated business.

1. A dive business that is not a PADI dive center/resort member and does not have a PADI Instructor working for or contracting with it:

• The business has no rights to use any PADI trademarks, business names, signage, etc.
