Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) is a free and open-source software for video recording and live streaming. There are versions of OBS available for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux distributions. OBS allows users to capture video from a variety of sources, such as computer screens, games, cameras, capture devices, and composite them together into professional-looking productions that are used to entertain, teach, and inspire.

Broadcast with OBS

1. Download and install OBS. OBS can be downloaded for free here: OBS Project
2. Within Open Broadcaster on PC, click File -> Settings; on Mac, go to OBS -> Preferences.
3. Select "Stream" and choose "Custom Streaming Server"; on Mac, under Service select “Custom…”
4. Enter your RTMP Address and Stream Key found in your MyStreamSpot customer portal (link here)
5. Click Output. Under Streaming settings tab:
   • Set "Encoder" to "x"
   • Set "Rate Control" to "CBR"
   • Set "Video Bitrate" to "". If this bitrate is not providing the best resolution, you can adjust it based on your internet speed. Best practices for your resolution can be found here.
   • Set “Keyframe Interval” to “2” (important)
   • Set “CPU Usage Preset” to “veryfast”
   • Set “Profile” to “main”

   

   • Next, click the “Audio” tab and change "Audio Bitrate" to "" for the first two outputs

   

    
6. Click “Video”.
   • Set both “Base (Canvas) Resolution” and “Output (Scaled) Resolution” to:
     “x” for p HD (recommended)
     “x” for p HD
     “x” for p (for slower connections)
7. Click"OK"
8. Under "Sources", right-click to add your desired audio and video. You will want to add your audio and video devices separately.
9. From the main "Broadcast" interface, click "Start Streaming" to begin your broadcast!
