Doesn't work with USB 3.0

I tried driver 8.1, 9.1, 9.2 alpha. Tried in my laptop and tried in my desktop, tried with older gpu drivers aswell as the newest, i tried updating windows and staying at my 1703 build. but no matter what i do it only works in the usb 2.0 port. I maybe got a damaged unit that the usb 3.0 interface is broken. But at usb 2.0 speed it's really shoppy and laggy which is great as the purpose i bought it for is to be able to watch movies while i work on the 2nd screen and the movies lags even dvd's lags.I do not recommend this product unless you REALLY need a 2nd screen but even then just get a cheaper unit that works with USB 3.0 for half the price... Pick-up of device can take a minute or more.

It took more time than I thought it should for my laptop to detect this device and register in the system for use. It still takes time when disconnecting from my USB devices and reconnecting to bring the external screens back again. Once registered the device works very well.... Read more...

It works on my mid 2012 MBP, but not without issues.

So I purchased this for my mid 2012 Macbook Pro because my MiniDP/Thunderbolt port stopped working. I had purchased another USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter and was unsatisfied. I can say I'm more satisfied with this one, but remain underwhelmed. The second display still shows lag, and if I try to watch a video on it, the video playback is not smooth. However after switching from the driver listed on Sewell's web site to the 4.0 Beta driver from Displaylink there is a noticeable drop in the lag. However it doesn't fix the lag completely, nor are videos really watchable. However it cuts the lag enough that I can do my work without annoyance.However I have decided to keep this adapter rather than going with a cheaper one. Although there are issues, this seems to be a better product than the other dongles I tried. Also if I damage the cable on this one, since it is a separate part I don't have to replace the entire thing. Also the cable is like 6 inches long, rather than 2-3" like the other ones, so I can hide this behind my monitor with relative ease.As a side note Displaylink notes that there are shading issues when using macOS Sierra. It does work. I didn't get a manual in the box, but it is similar to the previous USB 2.0 model. However, it does have an annoying problem. When I am not using it and turn on or off my TV it sends a signal back to my computer that causes the screen to blackout for a second and sounds the USB connect signal. I contacted Sewell technical support, but they never responded to me. The workaround is to turn off the DisplayLink driver in Device Manager, and only turn it on when I am using the Minideck.... Not HDCP compliant as is advertised. Neither Amazon Video nor Netflix will play on the display connected thru this adapter. They play when I connect my monitor to my laptop's HDMI port so all other components are compliant. I was really hoping this thing would work but sadly it does not. Returning it today.... Product works great. No problems after setting it up

Product works great. No problems after setting it up. At first I could not access my new computer monitor with my mouse, but customer support helped me to configure it to work. My only complaint is that I emailed their tech support and then customer service (from their website) and nobody got back to me. When I called them on the phone I did get in touch with them right away although, and my problem was resolved right away.... Read more...

Edit: 4 years later this unit is dead. I'm not sure if its the product itself or the drivers, or OSX. But if the product itself, then take note that there's some built in obsolescence.Note: You will have to update the driver software from the site rather than the drivers that are bundled on the thumb drive. If you do not, it will be insanely laggy. I didn't notice that the first time around.Its a pretty good solution if you can't afford a bunch of new thunderbolt displays. I'm running this using a macbook air 11" 2013. There's still a bit of lag when dragging windows around, but its not really a hinderance. Very fragile USB micro B sockets

USB micro B port break inside the box redering the units US. I purchased three units and two are now dead. Be very carefull how much stress is put on the cable plugged into the unit in a downward motion else you will hear a click and no video output.I have written to the supplier for a replacement or refund as these units are not in my opinion fit for purpose.... Pretty neat device, it works reasonably well over usb2 at overall it provides a good experience. Refresh rate of course is not comparable with a normal screen and drivers are reasonably stable and flexible, and even though there have been some hiccups sometimes, I'm pretty happy with it... I am using this minideck to connect a second screen to my Thinkpad Yoga. I will have to say it works as advertised. I can connect 2 23" monitors at 1080p and have perfect lag free performance. I use Adobe creative suite all day long and have never experienced any issues with performance and it has never disconnected. Have been using this setup for about a month and am really liking it....
