Protect Yourself From Tech Support Scams
Tech support scams are an industry-wide issue where scammers trick you into paying for unnecessary technical support services. You can help protect yourself from scammers by verifying that the contact is a Microsoft Agent or Microsoft Employee and that the phone number is an official Microsoft global customer service number.
Hi,
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Run the Microsoft Safety Scanner in full scan mode, and remove all the threats that get detected by it and see if the issue persists.

I downloaded the MS safety scanner - eventually. It would not download from your link, so I had to do a search on this site to find the download, meanwhile I found additional advice on the Windows 7 section of this site so I tried that first. It found and dealt with a few instances of Reimage Repair. Two further scans with other anti Malware software found nothing, so it seems unlikely that reimage repair is still on my computer.
Sadly problems still persist and I think there must be some connection to reimage repair as the site often imposes itself over a page I am trying to view. Links clicked from my favourites always open an unwanted page first. Things have got so bad I am having to revert to my old computer when using the internet, except for a few sites. The side bar which appears randomly on any web page always has this at the top: "related search by Discovery App" in tiny, pale grey print. I don't know whether this has any significance?
Would it help if I cleared all cookies and caches? Would I need to delete all, or just the ones from 9th December (when all this trouble began) up to the present?

Clear all cookies, cache & history.
Also install Malwarebytes, CCleaner & an ad blocker - Adblock plus is effective.
Look here for details on how to remove reimage repair.

Sorry to say none of the above has work. Things are getting worse. Not only I am still getting random pages opening every time I click a link. I still have the "DiscoveryApp" sidebar opening on nearly every every page I open. DiscoveryApp is worsening as now it opens a deep scolling bar at the top of the pages, displaying wares as catalogue entries. sometimes the company name is shown. Well known and respected companies in the UK.. ( most recently, Marks&Spencers.)
I have uninstalled Firefox and Edge and reinstalled them without carry anything, such as favourites/bookmarks forward/last visited info.
Discovery App has never shown up on any scan I have run.
Reluctantly I think I shall have to do a reset on my computer as I can't think of anything else to do. I have not downloaded an emergeny copy of Windows Do I need to do that before I reset the computer?
Please!!!
