Can't Download EXE files in Google Chrome Failed - Virus Detected
For some reason when I try and download EXE files with Chrome the file downloads and then I get a message stating that the download Failed - Virus Detected. I have tired disabling the Protect you and your device from dangerous sites option and that didn't fix it. This must be a setting in Google Chrome since I can download the files in Internet Explorer and Firefox. I tried disabling my Antivirus and that didn't help. I tried disabling Windows Defender as well and that didn't fix it either. I am running Windows 10 PRO and using Google Chrome v . We run Kaspersky Endpoint Security Antivirus.
Has anyone else run into this? Thank you in advance for your help.

Has Kaspersky installed an extension in your Chrome?
I don't see an extension for Kaspersky in the Chrome Extensions. I even went as far as to remove my Antivirus Client and try it. Still didn't work so I reinstalled the AV client.
Is this every .EXE file extension downloaded?
Does this happen in other browsers?
Typically means your infected There are some viruses that will auto block download's of exe's by failing them from download.
I would take a trusty jump drive and then use some of the standard tools and scan that machine.
You may need to even scan it in safe mode.
I would try resetting Chrome to defaults, but it honestly sounds like the beginning of an infection.
Frostyck - I can download them fine in Internet Explorer and Fire Fox
I would say re-install chrome.
Could very well be a browser based infection.

Best way to check a system is from OUTSIDE that system. Unfortunately, safe mode won't save you from everything.
Download the following using another machine and then burn it to a thumb drive using Rufus (or whatever your favorite flavor of USB burning software is).
diseinuak4web.net
Then, reboot the computer that is infected so that it boots from the new antivirus thumb drive you just made and have it do its thing.
There are many Live rescue CDs out there that do the same thing. The above link is for Panda's Cloud Cleaner Rescue CD, which is always up to date because it pulls the latest signatures and configs directly out of the cloud.
Others include:
AVG Rescue CD
Dr. Web Administrator emergency aid kit
Avira Rescue System
Acronis Antimalware Scan CD
Bitdefender Rescue CD v2
Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10
Just pick your poison, burn it to a thumb drive or CD, boot from it instead of the native system, and clean away.
Good luck.
You could try:
- At the top right, click Downloads
- Find the file you want to download
- Click Recover malicious file
This should only show up on files that have been blocked by Chrome.
From Chrome Support:
diseinuak4web.netI'm not seeing any option to Recover the File.
I am in the process of scanning my PC for Viruses. There are no other indications that my machined might be infected. The error I am getting isnt from Kaspersky. I have seen errors on other PCs when Kaspersky detects a malicious file. This is not like that. Its some setting or something in Chrome. I did do a reset on Chrome back to defaults but still am having the issue.
I can run the ISO that has the Panda Cloud Cleaner overnight
I have run virus scans with multiple scans and I haven't found any threats on my PC. I also noticed that I get the same error when I download JPG files.
Have you tried completely reinstalling Chrome? Resetting might not be enough.
I reinstalled Chrome and that didn't help at all. I haven't had time to look into this issue any more. I have been using firefox instead.

I found this solution on Chrome support site:
These errors mean that your virus scanning software might have blocked you from downloading a file.
Check your virus-scanning software for details about why the file was diseinuak4web.net Windows: Windows Attachment Manager could have removed the file you tried to download. To see what files you can download or why your file was blocked, check your Windows internet security settings.Peter Barnett
