Wayback Wednesday: Orange Juice in NBA 2K17
Andrew October 23, Features, NBA 2K17, Wayback WednesdayLeave a comment
This is Wayback Wednesday, your midweek blast from the past! In this feature, we dig into the archives, look back at the history of basketball gaming, and indulge in some nostalgia. Check in every Wednesday for retrospectives and other features on older versions of NBA Live, NBA 2K, and old school basketball video games in general. Youll also find old NLSC editorials re-published with added commentary, and other flashback content. This week, Im taking a look back at the story of Orange Juice in NBA 2K17s MyCAREER.
After NBA 2K14 brought us the first story-driven MyCAREER mode, and NBA 2K15s story delivered us the gift of infamously bad acting from NBA players, NBA 2K16 tried taking the concept to the next level with Spike Lees Livin Da Dream. Although the production values and acting were a lot better, the story had its own issues, and didnt gel with the RPG aspect of MyCAREER. As such, the story-driven approach would be retooled in NBA 2K17, increasing the amount of gameplay in our rookie seasons while also allowing for more flexibility with the player character.
2K would also bring in Aaron Covington, co-writer of Creed, to write and direct the story. Michael B. Jordan, who starred as Adonis Creed in the aforementioned film, was also signed on to play Justice Young. Together with the MyPLAYER character, The President of Basketball aka Pres he formed a duo known as Orange Juice. The name drew some scorn when it was revealed, but how does the story and its impact on NBA 2K17s MyCAREER hold up today? Pausing for a moment to note that there will be spoilers, lets take a look backway back

NBA 2K17 Online Support Ending December 31st
Andrew December 24, NBA 2K Comments
As you may or may not already know, online support for NBA 2K17 is ending on December 31st, Once the servers are shut down, well no longer have access to shared rosters and Draft Classes, MyLEAGUE Online, MyTEAM, Play Now Online, or any other online components. Virtual Currency purchases will also be unavailable, though MyCAREER will still be playable using an offline currency and more limited functionality.
Given that the NBA 2K17 server shutdown will be taking place within a week or so, it would be a wise idea to download any and all community content as soon as possible. To that end, if you have any recommendations for rosters, Draft Classes, or other shared content for NBA 2K17, feel free to post them in the comments section below, or in this topic in the NLSC Forum.
Following the controversy when the NBA 2K14 servers were shut down, 2K Sports extended support for all of their titles to 27 months. This has ensured that every NBA 2K game will receive online support for two full seasons, plus an additional three months. Barring a further change in policy, online support for NBA 2K18 will cease on December 31st,
Monday Tip-Off: Overtime for NBA 2K17 NBA 2K18 Online
Andrew October 29, Features, Monday Tip-Off, NBA 2K17, NBA 2K Comments
Were at midcourt, and the ball is about to go upits Monday Tip-Off! Start your week here at the NLSC with a feature thats dedicated to opinions, commentary, and other fun stuff related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games. This week, Im tipping things off by firing up NBA 2K17 and NBA 2K18 to see if anyone is still playing them online.
Unless 2K plans on extending their support for NBA 2K17 beyond the 27 months the company pledged following the controversy surrounding NBA 2K14, the games servers will be shut off at the end of this year. That gives anyone who is still playing the release a couple of months to get as much out of it as they can before online support finishes. Anyone still playing NBA 2K18 will have a little longer, as its servers arent due to be shut down until the end of This approach essentially affords each game two seasons worth of online support, plus three months.
While that wont appease everyone, its a reasonable assumption that most gamers will have moved on to a new release in that time. Indeed, we can assume that a bulk of the fanbase has already moved on to NBA 2K19, but how many people are holding out and still playing NBA 2K18? For that matter, how many people have stuck with NBA 2K17 for the past couple of years, or picked it up again? I recently booted up both games on PlayStation 4 to see if Id find many people still active in MyPARK and Pro-Am Walk-On, rather than hooping it up in NBA 2K The results were certainly interesting, at least on the Australasian servers.

Wayback Wednesday: All-Time College DLC for NBA 2K17
Andrew October 3, Features, NBA 2K17, Wayback WednesdayLeave a comment
This is Wayback Wednesday, your midweek blast from the past! In this feature, we dig into the archives, look back at the history of basketball gaming, and indulge in some nostalgia. Check in every Wednesday for retrospectives and other features on older versions of NBA Live, NBA 2K, and old school basketball video games in general. Youll also find old NLSC editorials re-published with added commentary, and other flashback content. This week, Im taking a look back at the All-Time College DLC for NBA 2K
Downloadable content hasnt been too common for basketball video games over the years. Compared to RPGs with their expansion packs and fighting games with their myriad of DLC characters, NBA Live and NBA 2K have generally stuck with the recurrent revenue model to earn additional income from their annual releases. There has been some DLC for hoops titles though, from the free Oklahoma City logo update for NBA Live 09 to NBA 2K12s Legends Showcase that cost $10 (or Microsoft Points).
The NBA 2K series has featured some DLC as recently as NBA 2K17, however. In addition to offering up the Dream Team as a pre-order bonus, 2K also released an All-Time College DLC pack. The pack, which was available around launch and exclusive to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, expanded the roster of bonus teams with some college content; a rarity in the wake of the Ed OBannon lawsuit. I realise that NBA 2K17 is still a fairly recent game, but lets take a look backa little way back
